Segundo Cumpleaños
March is a special time of year here at Pirate Life. It was the first week of this month back in 2015 that we debuted our beers down at the Gilbert St Hotel here in Adelaide. Last year our first birthday went off like a frog in a sock so we knew we had to make this year’s celebration count. Twenty five tonnes of sand, a couple of dozen palm trees, three new beers and three thousand punters later we feel like we have done a fair old job. This year we were lucky enough to have a gent by the name of Ben White set his Go-Pro up to capture the preparations and day of celebration so we are going to let the video do all the talking…
Thank you to the crew at the Gilbert Street Hotel. They are unquestionably the true heroes of the day as they poured thousands of pints and put up with the general shenaniganry that goes along with a Pirate Life party. Also, big thanks to the friends and family members who came down on Saturday and helped out with the prep, raking twenty odd tonne of sand isn’t an easy job and the place looked amazing. And thank you to all the crew who came down to party with us, it is always humbling to see such a mad show of love for the brewery and we couldn’t do what we do without you all.
Among the beers that we debuted on our birthday was the second in our ongoing collaboration with Tomfoolery Wines. This time a Saison aged in Grenache Barrels. The relatively blank canvas that is a Saison lets the flavours left behind by the Grenache shine through. More wine than beer, it hits the palate a bone dry mixture of Riesling and Chardonnay which, after a few moments of confusion, gives way to a gentle Saison finish reminding you that you are indeed sipping on a froth.
West Australian friends will have the chance to try this brew along with our new Mosaic IPA, the Apricot Berliner Weiss and all the old favourites this weekend when our mates at the Dutch Trading Co host a belated birthday bash for us. The event kicks off Saturday arvo and all the details can be found right here. We will also be at Old Bridge Cellars down in North Freo on Saturday between 2 and 5 for a tasting and a chance to have a yarn with Jack, Red and MC.
Cheers,
PLB Crew
